Had a BLAST down in Artist Alley doing some Artist Alleying! I met a lot of people I've only been familiar with online and even saw a few people I've interacted with here in person...it's great to be able to put faces on all the names I've met here.
I'm pretty excited coming back from this one with a lot of new ideas on running an art business and doing a better job putting my stuff out there. A lot of people there were familiar with some stuff I drew but didn't know I actually made it...I really need to do a better job promoting myself. If anyone has any suggestions about what has been working for them, I'm really open to your ideas.
As much as I enjoyed being a vendor/Artist Alley-or, I kind of wish I took more advantage of con swag. I did not, for example, know that there were several parties in the hotel BABScon was hosted at offering FREE DRINKS. As one who has always had to pay for his hooch, this concept pretty much blew my mind. Even more fun was getting to hang out and party.
I had so much fun at this con I'm still a bit bummed that it's actually over...staring out at the empty hotel grounds after Sunday's closing was kind of depressing. I feel like a fighter pilot that was conducting ace moves a second ago, got suddenly shot down, and was now on foot. Yet I got so much out of it that I feel like a downed fighter pilot who is in line for a promotion and an opportunity to fly an even better jetfighter later on.
So yeah, when's the next one?

State of the Berry Address + Nightmare Nights!
Well, it's been a while since I've been able to sit down and post much of anything here, and I apologize for the...many hiatuses I have taken art wise. The job search ended recently and I've landed a new banking position...and moved all the way to Dallas, y'all. :O It's a bit farther from San Francisco than where I used to live in Reno, but I can still visit my family with dirt cheap airfare...provided I bring no luggage. Not even a carry-on, apparently. D: The move has been a real adventure and I'm excited to see where it's going to go in the future. My coworkers are awesome, my managers are cool, and the salary is more than enough fo
Job hunt update: Decisions, decisions
Nailed a few interviews this week, and job prospects are looking good! I'll most likely be returning to the kind of stuff I've been doing day-job-wise: auditing for a financial institution of some kind. And now things are...getting a bit picky when it comes to deciding.
The thing I'm debating is that I'm looking at two jobs I've been feeling pretty good about, based on how the interview went. Both involve the same nature of banking work for pretty much the same good pay. One is in San Francisco, where my family lives. It'd be in downtown SF and well within reach of all there is to do in San Fran...having grown up there I really love the
A long overdue update on lifestuffs.
Golly. My last journal was how long ago? Just before the Smarty Pants saga got completed? Dang I am long overdue for staying in touch with everybody. :(
First of all...the con scene.
I...really don't know if I'm feeling it that much anymore, honestly.
The market for my stuff is slowing down year after year, and I'm actually a couple thousand in the hole looking at records for my business finances. It's getting to the point where I'm having to keep my fingers crossed making a monumental effort to break even.
To be honest I've been feeling this way for a while, and it really sucks because I do enjoy coming out to these conventions and
Getting closer to the end of this comic thing
Hoo boy...this is turning out to be a real doozy. I've spent so much time on this by now that I'm really looking forward to polishing this off and moving on at this point. Still, I've grown so attached to Smarty Pants that I feel she deserves a happy ending and am willing to put forth whatever it will take to give her a happy ending. The good news, not too far left to go!
In this update...Smarty finally meets up with the family and her Study Buddy companions! She seems a bit shy though...hopefully Twilight can coax her out from behind her tail :D

Self promotion: I know nothing about it. But maybe you'd like to consider signing your art. Nothing noticeable, just a nifty, recognizable, subtly-placed motif that people will recognize, like what JollyJack has on all his pieces.
